How can I scan a single file that came as a link, and can i scan arriving email?

It use to be a feature on my old PC when a link from an email needed to be scanned all i had to do was right click on the link and choose option "scan email/link for viruses . What's the deal now, do they get scan automatically ?

It depends on what anti-virus program you have. AVG, for example, has a plugin for most email programs that automatically scans all incoming and outgoing emails and adds a small text footer to each email confirming that they have passed that scan.





It also has a shell extension that allows you to right click any file or folder on your computer and scan it.

Reply:AVAST makes an EXCELLENT Anti Virus FREE program. I have used it for years and NOT ONE Virus has gotten through.





It checks Email, P2P,Web Sites, Networks, all Instant Messenger exchanges, etc.





Also, UNlike Norton or McAffee, AVAST usually updates DAILY compared to their usually, weekly updates.

What email service are you using ?


They both require some setup as to your preferences.


In general, try to right clk a file and see if Scan for Virus is an option.

Reply:Your antivirus subscription may have expired. AVG Free has an excellent active email scanner. I am using it on all my computers. They are P-III 500Mhz (if that helps).





Be sure and select the free and not the commercial version.

Reply:Depends on what virus program you are using. Edit with the name of the program and then someone will be able to give you the step by step process. It is different with each virus scanner....
