Text messaging or SMS in geek speak is for text only.
You need have a device and connection suitable for MMS messaging to be able to send a picture.
Usually, if you open a picture on a phone then choose options there will be one called "send" with a sub option of multimedia. Try selecting that.
Some systems will not receive pictures until they have sent one
